We are living in an era of technology which is termed as the best age of human history. We were unfamiliar with a lot of things in our past which we can know in the present age. In this era, everyone is in the race to conquer the world employing technology. In this respect, we come to know about different features and upgrades of a particular thing. All these prospects have an unending list from which one is today's topic regarded as Social Media.Introduction
Social media are interactive, communicative, informative computer-mediated technologies. It facilitates the sharing and creation of different ideas, interests, pieces of information, and other types of expressions via virtual communities through their networks. Social media has different contents and features used by the users at different platforms including desktops, laptops, tabs and mobile phones which can support these features. It has conquered the internet communities as a part of their lives. About billions of people over the globe use social media networks and platforms which is proof of its craze, diversity, and success of their inventors. |

History
The term social media stimulates our mind to the internet. We, especially I, used to relate social media with the internet. It is not reliable to an aspect. In the 1840's social media have been influenced by the introduction of the telegraph in the US. It was the first influenced term of social media. It has been progressing with a much large speed to the present term of social media which maybe, up to my thinking, related to the term internet and latest communicative devices.
Six Degrees, which was launched in May 1997, is considered to be the first social networking site including profiles, friend lists and school affiliates which are accessed by registered users.
Statistics
There hundreds of social media networks which are used collectively by billions of people all over the world. Among these, there are a few which are enabled to become interest of the users. However, almost every new launched social media network has its unique features but all are not comparable to the existing one which has made his place in the users' mind. Following is a sheet showing the craze of social media all over the world.

YouTube
It is also an American video-sharing website. It was initiated by three persons. Chad Hurley, Steve Chan and Jawed Karim started the service of YouTube in February 2005. After viewing its success in only a year, Google bought this website on November 2006 for US$1.65 billion. Now it is regarded as one of Google's subsidiaries. It is estimated that if YouTube were a stock, it would be worth some US$80 billion at least. However, it is truly paid of Google. It is the 2nd ranked website all over the world.
WhatsApp Messenger is a freeware voice over and text sending service. It allows its users to send text messages and voice messages. It also enables its users for voice call, video call, send documents, locations, images and other media. It is owned by Facebook. It was released on January 2009 by WhatsApp Inc. In February 2014, Facebook acquired client application for US$19.3 billion approximately. It is the 52nd ranked site.
Twitter is a social networking and microblogging social networking service. Users post and interact with messages and like, read and retweet the tweets. Tweets are regarded as the microblogs on twitter. It is given the name by its developers. In March 2006, it was created by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams. Its net income is US$1.2 billion (2018). It is the 12th ranked website all over the globe.
Instagram is also a social media site owned by Facebook. It is used to share photos and videos by your followers. It was initially launched exclusively for iOS in October 2010 but later in April 2012, an android version was also released. It was launched by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. It is the 21st ranked site.
Social media has been supersaturated in the colloidal solution of our busy lives.
As an aspect of knowledge and well-awareness with the everyday situations of the world, social media have played an incredible role. We can get information about every happening around the world like results of sports, political issues, mishaps, new inventions and much more. It has provided different virtual communities which let us update about the conditions of the present as well as about the predictions of the future. It has become a source of information.
On the other hand, we are so interested to update our profile pics and share the unwanted docs, files, videos, and texts with each other to just get a thumbs up. On social media platforms, there are persons in our friend list or following list which we don't know at all, maybe from the other corner of the word. Even we have never met them in our life. And for these persons, we update a fluffy photo by different third-party apps to get some craze. But we even don't know about the situation of our next-door neighbor like has he taken his night meal or has he enough sources to stand his lifestyle?
We should take social media up to an aspect in our lives beyond the real-life issues. We should not waste our time in uploading our pics on social media.
As a matter of fact, we should be realistic and live a managed life. We should not waste our time in wasteful stuff and endless stuff on social media. Up to some aspect like enjoyment for a moment, information about a trending issue or some trending videos, it is great and a good source to spend our time. But if we make it up to our heads and remain in it for hours without considering anybody else in our life from our family and friend cycle, it will be like destroying ourselves. |
